Foundation Scholarship Programs

A Brief History

The One West Education & Research Foundation has a long-standing commitment to supporting destination marketers in the Western United States and Canada through a variety of scholarship programs. These scholarships aim to enhance the professional development of CEOs and staff members from destination marketing organizations (DMOs) by providing opportunities to attend key industry events and training programs.

Rosalind Williams Memorial Scholarship for CEOs and Senior Staff Executives

This memorial scholarship provides DMO CEOs and senior staff opportunities to attend executive training programs. Named in honor of Rosalind Williams, former President & CEO of the Newport Beach Conference & Visitors Bureau, this scholarship supports professional growth through accredited institutions and professional organizations.

Summit Scholarships

This program offers scholarships to DMO CEOs and staff to attend the One West Summits. Scholarships include registration fees, conference meals, and lodging for two nights.

Brad Burlingame Honorary Scholarship” at Cal Poly Pomona

  

The “Brad Burlingame Honorary Scholarship” is awarded annually to a sophomore or junior studying at Cal Poly Pomona in California.

Burlingame served as President & CEO of what now is Visit West Hollywood for 18 years. Under his leadership, West Hollywood become a major travel destination. He passed away in December 2015. 

He gave many years of dedicated service to the Association and Foundation. Burlingame served six years on the WACVB (now One West) Board of Directors, including service as its Board President. He also served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation. Burlingame believed in introducing young people to the destination marketing profession and was a widely respected leader in the industry. 


Each year, a $2,500 scholarship is awarded to a sophomore or junior enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona. Please join us in celebrating Brad Burlingame’s contributions to the destination marketing industry and his commitment to encouraging young people to explore career paths in our profession. We invite you to make a tax-deductible contribution to the DMA West Foundation for the “Brad Burlingame Honorary Scholarship” fund

Scholarship Program Requirements

Purpose
The One West Foundation Scholarship aims to empower CEOs and staff members from qualifying DMOs to achieve higher levels of performance and industry knowledge by participating in the One West Tech Summit. This scholarship assists DMOs in providing quality professional development and continuing education to their staff and CEOs, thereby elevating the level of professionalism within our industry.


Criteria for Selection

The One West Foundation Scholarship Committee will select scholarship recipients based on the following criteria:

  • Employment: Applicant must be employed full-time and have been with their current employer for at least one year. The employer must be a member destination marketing organization located in the Western United States or Western Canada.
  • Previous Scholarships: Applicant must not have received a previous scholarship to attend the Summit.
  • Financial Need: The DMO must be financially unable to pay the registration fee and lodging costs for the applicant. No financial documentation is required; honesty is appreciated.

Scholarship Awards

Scholarship recipients will be eligible to receive complimentary registration and hotel accommodations, which include scheduled meals at the Tech Summit. Recipients are responsible for their travel expenses (airfare, mileage, ground transportation, etc.).
